Shetland Aerogenerators
Shetland Aerogenerators have, for over three decades, offered operations and maintenance services to windfarm owners. This includes performance monitoring, inspections and scheduled maintenance of complex equipment in the most challenging of environments. Additionally they are also developing new windfarm projects and have been involved in the creation of new sites generating over 500MW of power.
To ensure that the company continued to attract new clients and to develop the very best practice in their sector, the company sought certification across three standards – ISO 9001 for quality, ISO 14001 for environmental and ISO 45001 for safety management. QCS was chosen to partner the company in developing systems through to successful certification.
Methodology
From an initial discussion, establishing what might already be in place along with proposed resource, timeframe and goals, QCS were able to undertake a gap analysis highlighting priorities and milestones.
An action planner was then developed with the operational team at Shetland Aerogenerators, identify priorities and highlighting what help was needed from QCS. QCS assisted in the development of new policies, procedures and working documents; with our assistance the team began to build the framework of a working, integrated management system (IMS).
Their appointed QCS consultant provided support and guidance through the process and also ensured that all staff in the company were taken on the journey towards certification. Tasks delivered by QCS included assistance in the structure of documents required to support the system, delivery of management review, initiation of audit programmes, development of nonconformance procedures and completion of legal compliance evaluations.
Outcomes
Following the selection of a certification body that met the Shetland Aerogenerator criteria a Stage 1 certification body assessment was quickly followed by a successful Stage 2 audit. The company gained certification to all three standards in a period of under 9 months. With QCS support the company is now able to take advantage of their management system and enjoy the benefits for years to come.
