Standards that Power Progress

A shared vision only becomes valuable when people have a reliable way to put it into practice.

This week, we’re recognising World Standards Day and its 2026 theme: “Shared vision for a better world”, with a spotlight on SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy. It celebrates how international standards help turn global ambitions into practical progress.

At QCS International, part of the PHSC plc Group, standards are part of our everyday work. We see the difference they can make when embedded properly: clearer responsibilities, simpler processes, less wasted time and money, and stronger customer confidence. Certification can also open doors to tenders and new markets. The lasting value comes from using the framework every day to lead, improve and grow.

The connection with this year’s energy theme is practical. Repeated errors consume materials, energy and people’s time. Understanding their causes and improving the process can benefit both business performance and resource use. ISO 50001 provides a dedicated framework for improving energy performance through the same discipline of setting objectives, measuring results and continually improving.

The revised ISO 9001:2026 reinforces this business perspective, giving opportunities greater prominence alongside risks and strengthening the focus on leadership, quality culture and strategic direction. Opportunities were already part of ISO 9001; the revision brings them into sharper focus.

For leaders, that means actively looking for ways to improve customer experience, strengthen supplier relationships, build capability and pursue new business. Effectively embedded standards provide the structure to turn those possibilities into consistent results.
